Content:The talk will be twofold:
1. A presentation of the great two-dimensional sandpiles folklore. This
includes playing with a simulator, algebraic properties, and beautiful
images.
2. Our contribution to the field: we formally prove the emergence of
very regular shapes on one-dimensional sandpile configurations, without
requiring a perfect understanding of the dynamics (joint work with Eric
Rémila). This includes some linear algebra and combinatorics.
