Mini-course: Mathematical Problems in Kinetic Theory
Time:08:00:18/07/2024 to 12:00:19/07/2024
Venue/Location: Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), Hanoi
Organisers:
- Nguyen Trong Toan, Penn State University, USA
- Le Minh Ha, VIASM
Abstract: Kinetic Theory is commonly used to describe the collective behaviour of a large system of interacting particles both in classical mechanics and quantum mechanics. This mini-course will provide an overview of the mathematical open problems in the field and present the recent advances towards resolving them, including both collision-less models such as Vlasov-Poisson and Vlasov-Maxwell systems as well as collisional models such as Boltzmann equations. The course can be taken together with the minicourse on the kinetic wave turbulence theory by G. Staffilani and M. B. Tran.
Participants: Undergraduate students, graduate students, and young researchers with basic background on Partial Differential Equations, Sobolev Spaces, and Functional Analysis.
Lecturers:
- Claude Bardos, Paris Diderot University, France
- François Golse, École Polytechnique, France
- Trinh T. Nguyen, University of Wisconsin at Madison, USA
