Summer School on Deep Learning

Purpose: Deep learning is proving highly successful in practice, on both structured and unstructured data (images, text). It can be used to address both supervised (regression or classification) and unsupervised (clustering) problems. This first set of courses will introduce deep neural networks and convolutional neural networks. A second session in 2025 will introduce other neural network architectures: RNNs, GANs and transformers.

Expected participants: Undergraduate/graduate students, young researchers/lecturers and others interested in mathematics.

Prerequisites:

  • Statistical learning: regression and classification, overfitting, train-validation-test split
  • Python basics (numpy, pandas, matplotlib)

Estimated class size: 60.
