Industry-Academia Program in BioInformatics

Venue/Location: Viện Nghiên cứu cao cấp về Toán (VIASM), 157 Phố Chùa Láng, Đống Đa, Hà Nội.
Starting from 2025, Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) and BioTuring Inc. will collaborate to implement the “Industry-Academia Program in BioInformatics”, IAPB for short, which relates to unicellular biology and spatial biology, with applications in various fields like neuroscience, cancer and autoimmune diseases.
The goal of the program is to promote applied mathematics research, with the hope that Vietnam can contribute globally with significant breakthroughs in the field of BioInformatics. The program also contributes to nurturing young talents in Vietnam in the field of applied mathematics through research experiences in both academic and industrial environments. This partnership connects the mathematical capabilities of Vietnamese people with practical applications in BioInformatics, creating useful solutions for biological research.
- Program Content:
- Postdoctoral research and internship program
The program will provide funding for postdoctoral research and research assistantships for students. The research team will have the opportunity to work in both academic (at VIASM) and industrial (at BioTuring) environments, with guidance from leading mathematicians and bioinformatics experts.
Duration: 01 year, can be extended for a maximum of 02 years.
- Organize scientific activities
Based on annual needs and plans, VIASM and BioTuring will jointly organize scientific activities (conferences, workshops, specialized schools) in the field of BioInformatics.
- Participants of the postdoctoral research and internship program:
- Postdoc: Has a PhD, has good research ability and relevant research proposals.
- Interns: Vietnamese final-year university students or recent graduates with degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics.
Sponsorships:
- BioTuring:
- Workplace and necessary facilities for research;
- Postdoctoral research scholarships will be considered and approved by the Management Board within one year and may be extended for up to two years. The maximum scholarship is 33 million VND per month.
- In addition to the postdoctoral research scholarship, each candidate will be considered for funding for up to 2 students to join the research team for a period of 6-12 months. The student applications will be approved by the IAPB Management Committee. The maximum stipend for the students is 13 million VND per month.

- Workplace and necessary facilities for research;
- Supports in organizing scientific activities for postdoctoral researchers and students during their time working at VIASM.
