Group of diffeomorphisms and applications to fluid dynamic equations: part I compact manifolds

Abstract: we observe the structure of groups of diffeomorphisms which preserve volume form on a smooth, oriented compact manifold M. Next, we recall the relations of these groups to well-posedness problems of weak solutions of Euler, Navier-Stokes and certain averaged turbulence equations. Finally, we discuss also some open related problems.
