Public Lecture: Hilbert’s 6th Problem and the Kakeya Conjecture

Objective: This lecture will highlight some of the groundbreaking work of Yu Deng and Hong Wang, two of the four recipients of the Fields Medal at the ICM 2026 in Philadelphia. In particular, it will provide an overview of the recent resolution of Hilbert's Sixth Problem for hard-sphere systems and the Kakeya Conjecture for needle sets. The talk is intended for a general audience and will emphasize the main ideas and significance of these remarkable achievements.
