Spring School on Statistics and Machine Learning

Objective:

The objective of this project is to create a synergy by setting up a spring school at the Ho Chi Minh University of Sciences in Vietnam, bringing academic expertise from the Toulouse Institute of Mathematics and ENS-Paris-Saclay in France. In this way, our project aims to support long-term development of applied data sciences in Vietnam benefiting students, faculty members, and the wider academic community in Vietnam and its neighboring countries.

The spring school will propose introductory courses on statistics and machine learning during the first week, while more specialized (more theoretical or more applied) courses will be given during the second week. The courses are designed to be accessible to students of master’s degree in applied mathematics, but motivated students in the last year of bachelor’s degree are also welcome (more particularly during the first week), as well as doctoral students, post-docs, and colleagues of the Statistics Department.

This school is intended to be repeated in the coming years to perpetuate the synergy between France and Vietnam in the field of statistics, machine learning and data sciences. In addition, we hope that at the end of each edition, promising Vietnamese students will be identified to pursue their thesis in co-supervision with France.
