Announcement: Call for Proposals 2026
The Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) invites research groups and individuals to apply for short-term research visits in 2026 (from 2 up to 12 months).
Candidates can be groups or individuals in any branch of mathematics and the mathematical sciences (including computational sciences, statistical sciences, theoretical computer sciences, cryptography…, etc.).
1. Research groups
Priority will be given to mixed research groups, consisting of international and Vietnamese researchers, although applications from outstanding individual researchers will also be considered. Female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
The VIASM Scientific Council will appoint candidates in the following categories: Distinguished Professor, Research Professor, Senior Researcher, Junior Researcher, and Research Assistant.
Documents to be submitted online using the application system:
(1) Curriculum vitaes of the Principal Investigator and group members.
(2) Research proposal: should be written in English and should not exceed 5 pages (excluding references).
2. Postdoctoral fellows
The VIASM will award up to 5 one-year postdoctoral fellowships (with a possible renewal of another year). These positions are intended for early-career researchers up to 5 years post-Ph.D (after January 01, 2020).
Documents to be submitted:
(1) A curriculum vitae and research proposal (should be written in English and should not exceed 5 pages, excluding references).
(2) At most 2 reference letters (in English, to be sent directly by the senders)
(3) An e-copy of the doctoral certificate,
(4) Full doctoral thesis
(5) The thesis defense committee’s comment (if available).
Reference letters should be sent directly to the email address application@viasm.edu.vn with the title "VIASM2026-Applicant's Name". Please note that the letter must be sent prior to the deadline December 31, 2024.
A curriculum vitae and research proposal, an e-copy of the doctoral certificate, the doctoral thesis, and the thesis defense committee’s comment will be submitted through the VIASM research management system (VIASM RMS).
3. How to apply
Applications must be submitted online at the VIASM application system: https://portal.viasm.edu.vn/. (please read the VIASM RMS user guide here).
First, the Principal Investigator sets up an account (if he/she is a new user), creates a new proposal, and invites other researchers to join his/her research group. After receiving an invitation email, members of the group sign up/sign in to the system and proceed to submit the required information.
Researchers with existing accounts should update their curriculum vitae, especially recent publications.
In 2024, VIASM will use a new research management system. The database of the previous system (rms.viasm.edu.vn) will still be preserved. If a member already has an account in the previous system, please select the option “Do you already have an account in the Researcher Management System (RMS) of VIASM? Please click here to retrieve your login password.” to set up a new password.
4. Deadline
Application Deadline: 31 December 2024, Hanoi time (GMT+7).
Results will be announced by March 31, 2025.
5. Additional Information
Research fellows will receive a research honorarium during their stays (from 2 to up to 12 months, appointed by the VIASM Scientific Council). Accommodation will also be arranged for visitors from outside Hanoi. Travel support from home institutions will be available upon request.
Additional support will be considered for scientific activities organized by the collaborative research groups. Research groups may also propose to invite other international scientists to VIASM for research collaboration.
Research fellows are expected to stay for at least two months. Research groups are encouraged to propose inviting visiting researchers and graduate students for short-term stays (less than a month). Support for local expenses (domestic travel, accommodation, and stipend) for visiting researchers and graduate students is available upon request.
