This event was a 4-day concentrated group discussion in PDE and related areas from July 25 to July 28, 2022 at VIASM. The invited speakers at the workshop were Vietnamese top experts in the areas; from the senior leading figures Professor Dinh Nho Hao (Institute of Mathematics, VAST), Professor Dang Duc Trong (University of Science, VNUHCMC), to the young promising mathematicians Dr. Duong Giao Ky (An Giang University, VNUHCMC), Le Thi Thu Thuy (graduate student, UNC Charlotte), to some Vietnamese working in the US such as Professor Nguyen Trung Thanh (Rowan University, US), Professor Nguyen Hoang Loc (UNC Charlotte), and the two organizers and speakers Professor Phan Van Tuoc (UTK), and Professor Tran Vinh Hung (UW-Madison).

The theme of the workshop was about various aspects and research directions in inverse problems together with finer properties of solutions of elliptic and parabolic equations. The workshop had five lectures on the inverse problems and three lectures on elliptic and parabolic equations. All lectures were in a warm and friendly atmosphere  with many interesting and deep questions from the audience. New research collaborations are expected to be formed in the near future. 

This was an extremely needed and long awaited activity for the Vietnamese mathematicians to meet and discuss face to face after a long hiatus because of the pandemic. A key point of the conference was that each speaker presented some new ideas/directions that he/she has studied and developed in a whole morning or a whole afternoon. This warm atmosphere in the discussions will create various strong connections and research collaborations between the participants afterward. 

The young participants in the workshop were selected carefully and they were the very best Vietnamese students from all over places in Vietnam and some are doing their graduate studies abroad. Through the discussions and interactions, the participants showed their passion and love for mathematics, and there is a clear bright future for them to pursue research in mathematics.
