The International Mini-Workshop on Continuous Optimization was organized by Prof. Dr. Phan Quoc Khanh and his research group during their research stay at Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM). It was sponsored by VIASM and took place in October 5-7, 2018 at the Talent Incubator Park (Talinpa) villa, Tuan Chau, Ha Long, Vietnam.
This workshop brought together research fellows and visiting professors at VIASM and institutions in Hanoi to discuss new tools, techniques and results in theoretical aspects of Variational Analysis and Equilibrium Problems as well as numerical methods and practical applications.
Prof. Dr. Christiane Tammer, Editor-in-Chief of Optimization, from the Institute of Mathematics, Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg presented an excellent invited lecture on multi-objective optimization in location theory and introduced the software Facility Location Optimizer (http://www.projectflo.de) developed by her research group for solving location problems.
Prof. Dr. Alexander Kruger, Director of Center for Informatics and Applied Optimization, Federation University Australia delivered an outstanding presentation on the extremal principle from the original form to the newest version.
Other participants are well-known mathematicians from France, United States of America and Vietnam. They shared new research findings and sought opportunities to collaborate in necessary conditions, stability, tools and methods for solutions of problems in vector optimization and set optimization.
Beside a rich scientific program, all participants enjoyed swimming in the clean and salted water at the nice beach right at the back yard of the Talinpa villa and some also took part in an overnight cruise excursion to capture the beautiful natural wonder of Ha Long bay, a UNESCO World Heritage in the north of Vietnam.
