David Eisenbud has been named as the next director of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, California. His four-year term starts August 1, 2013.
This is the second time Eisenbud will have served as MSRI director; he first held the post from 1997 until the appointment of Robert Bryant in 2007. He was president of the AMS from 2003 to 2005. Currently, Eisenbud is a professor at the University of California at Berkeley and is the director for Mathematics and the Physical Sciences at the Simons Foundation in New York.
