Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan to visit Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan and Deputy Minister of Education and Training Bui Van Ga visited Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) at 7 floor, Ta Quang Buu Library, Hanoi University of Science and Technology on 9 August 2012.


During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister discussed with VIASM Board of Executives, visited VIASM office and had talks with VIASM staff, researchers and students.



The Deputy Prime Minister discussed with professor Marius van der Put (Groningen, The Netherlands) and professor John Lafferty (Chicago, US).


At that time there were two seminars taking place at VIASM: one was about Statical Machine Learning, given by group of professors Ho Tu Bao, John Lafferty, and Nguyen Xuan Long; the other was about Number Theory given by professor Ngo Bao Chau.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan congratulated VIASM on its early achivements during the fist year of operation, in terms of building the offices, organising research activities as well as attracting a certain number of researchers from across Vietnam and all over the world.


The Deputy Prime Minister said he was very happy to hear about the Joint Congress of Vietnam Mathematical Society (VMS) and the French Mathematical Society (SMF) which will be taken place at the University of Hue from August 20 to August 24, 2012. This is the first international joint congress between VMS and a foreign mathematical society, and expected to welcome more than 500 international participants.


The Deputy Prime Minister visit again confirmed the Government determination on developing Vietnam mathematics as well as Vietnam science at large.
