On November 17, 2018, the Opening Ceremony of the Forum “Math-for-Industry” 2018 took place at Fudan University, Shanghai, China. The forum was held from November 17 to 21, which attracted about 60 participants not only from the Asia-Pacific region but also from around the world. The Forum “Math-for-Industry” 2018 consisted of 2 parts: the Scientific Conference and the Poster Session, providing a glimpse of a diverse application of mathematics through works of graduate students.
The Scientific Conference of the Forum included 24 Invited Talks: 16 plenary talks and 8 young researchers talks. Each scientific report presented the research achievements of ìndividuals and research teams about theory and applications of Mathematics that are hotly-discussed around the world; especially those related to the economy.
Assoc.Prof. Le Minh Ha - Managing Director of the Vietnam Institute of Advanced Study in Mathematics represented the Institute to participate and speak at the forum “Math-for-Industry” 2018 at Fudan University, Shanghai. His talk titled “National Program for Development in Mathematics in Vietnam 2010-2020: An Overview” was a brief description of the history of modern Mathematics in Vietnam and the ongoing National Program for the Development of Mathematics, concentrating on efforts in promoting Applied Mathematics in Vietnam.
The Poster Session was held on the afternoon of November 20, 2018. At the exhibition, 28 posters from participating organizations were shown and work of graduate students have been presented. The Best Poster Award belonged to Yunyoung Park from National Institute for Mathematical Sciences, South Korea with title “Locomotion of a Single-Flagellated Bacterium in a Viscous Fluid”. In addition to the award-winning poster, there were 6 other excellent posters respectively belonged to Yu Chen from Fudan University - China, Nguyen Thi Hoai Linh from Kyushu University - Japan; Xiaoman Liu from Southease University - China; Hyeongki Park from Kyushu University - Japan; Xiaolu Xu from Danlian University of Technology - China; and Sebastian Elias Graiff Zurita from Kyushu University - Japan.
The Forum “Math-for-Industry” 2018 was organized by Fudan University - China, Institute of Mathematics for Industry from Kyushu University - Japan, and Asia Pacific Consortium of Mathematics for Industry.
The Closing Ceremony taking place at noon on November 21, 2018 marked a successful Forum “Math-for-Industry” 2018. The Forum will be held in New Zealand in 2019, and in 2020, it will be hosted by the Vietnam Institute of Advanced Study in Mathematics, Vietnam.
