Within the National Program for the Development of Mathematics 2021-2030, the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) organized a Mini-course on Methods in Nevanlinna Theory and Hyperbolic Geometry from July 16 to 17, 2024. Nearly 60 participants attended the course, primarily comprising PhD students, graduate students, undergraduate students from institutions and universities in Hanoi.
Lecturers and participants at the course
Representing the Organizing Committee, Professor Tran Van Tan (Hanoi University of Education and a member of the VIASM Scientific Council) introduced the lecturer and outlined the main contents of the course. Through engaging lectures presented by Professor Min Ru (University of Houston, USA), the course aimed to provide foundational knowledge and detailed insights into the core principles and practical applications of Nevanlinna Theory and Complex Hyperbolicity. After each theoretical lecture, the participants engaged in discussions, exchanged ideas, and applied their learning through practical exercises at the end of each day.
Prof. Tran Van Tan delivered the opening speech
The lecture series covered both basic and advanced topics, including: Some background on Differential Geometry; Minimal surfaces and the Gauss maps of minimal surfaces; Nevanlinna theory on the distribution of holomorphic mappings; The distribution of Gauss maps of minimal surfaces in R^3 and in R^n; Introduction to the complex hyperbolicity; The Green-Griffiths jet differentials and the general Second Main Theorem.
Prof. Min Ru lectured at the course
The course was highly successful, marked by enthusiastic participation and lively discussions between participants and lecturer. The lectures not only reinforced existing knowledge but also guided participants towards the latest research topics, opening up new and intriguing avenues for exploration.
