In the morning of 7 January 2014, Prof. Joe Harris (Harvard University) has given the first lecture of Workshop on Birational Geometry and Stability of Moduli Stacks and Spaces of Curves. This is the first scientific activity at the Institute in the year 2014, with the attendant of well-known international and Vietnamese mathematicians.
The workshop is divided into 2 periods of 3 weeks before and after the Lunar New Year 2014. There will be three or four speakers talking about some important topics in this research field on Tuesday and Thursday each week. Problem sessions will be followed right after the lectures.
According to Prof. Ngo Viet Trung – former Director of Institute of Mathematics – VAST, who is currently working at VIASM: The topics of the Workshop belongs to Algebraic Geometry which is one of the most active research field of today’s mathematics. The aim is to address some important problems of birational geometry and the theory of moduli spaces. We hopes that the workshop will promote the development of Algebraic Geometry in Vietnam.
Wish Moduli 2014 a great success!
