In the opening ceremony, after the first speech of Prof. Nguyen Huu Du, the Managing Director of VIASM, Prof. Pham Huu Sach, Prof. Do Sang Kim, and Prof. Nguyen Dong Yen were very emotional when recalling the academic cooperation agreement in 1998 between Vietnam Institute of Mathematics and Basic Science Research Institute of Pukyong National University. Over twenty years, a series of workshops under the names “Korea-Vietnam Workshop Mathematical Optimization Theory and Applications” and “Vietnam-Korea Workshop Mathematical Optimization Theory and Applications” have been held in Busan, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, and Da Lat. Many mathematicans from Vietnam have had long and short research stays in Korea, and the beautiful city Busan has become a wonderful address for academic cooperation in the last twenty years, today, and tomorrow.

Under the name “International Workshop Mathematical Optimization Theory and Applications”, This Workshop is held on the occasion of 65th birthdays of Prof. Do Sang Kim and Prof. Gue Myung Lee in order to highlight their distinguished achievements on scientific research, training, and international cooperation.

The Workshop creates a forum for experts and young researchers from Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, and other countries in the fields of Applied Analysis and Optimization theory to exchange new reseach ideas and results.

The Workshop has 80 participants. Among them, there are 6 Professors and Doctors from Korea, 4 Professors from Thailand, and many Professors and Doctors of Vietnam. Some participants come from Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, Quy Nhon, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Thai Nguyen, et al. There are several PhD students from Korea, Thailand, and many PhD students of Vietnam.
