The inaugural Fields Medal Symposium will take place at the Fields Institute, October 15-18, 2012. The symposium will be held each year in the research area of one of the most recent recipients of the Fields Medal.
The inaugural Fields Medal Symposium of 2012 will honour Ngô Bao Châu, one of the 2010 Fields Medalists. The symposium is entitled Fundamentals of the Langlands Program’ and is aimed at a general scientific audience.
Notable speakers include James Arthur, Gerard Laumon, Edward Frenkel, Richard Taylor, Edward Witten, Diana Shelstad, Laurent Lafforgue, Nigel Hitchin, who are among a much longer list of very distinguished mathematicians in Number Theory, Mathematical Physics, and Geometry.
