The Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), in collaboration with the London Mathematical Society (LMS) and the Vietnam Mathematical Society (VMS), is pleased to announce the UK–Vietnam Fellowship Scheme 2027, a fellowship programme supporting research exchange and strengthening collaboration between the mathematical communities of the United Kingdom and Vietnam.
1. About the Fellowship
In August 2025, the London Mathematical Society (LMS) held its first Global Meeting in Vietnam, hosted by the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) in Hanoi. During the visit, the LMS and the Vietnam Mathematical Society (VMS) signed a reciprocity agreement and began discussions on strengthening connections between the mathematical communities of the UK and Vietnam.
To build on this partnership, the LMS, VMS and VIASM have established the UK–Vietnam Fellowship Scheme, to provide opportunities for mathematicians from Vietnam and the UK to undertake research visits in the partner country, develop new research connections, and build long-term collaborations.
The scheme aims to foster new research partnerships, facilitate knowledge exchange, and encourage long-term collaboration between the two countries.
2. Fellowship Categories
The scheme offers opportunities for two groups
2.1. Vietnamese Early Career Researchers (ECRs)
- An opportunity to undertake a research visit at a UK university or research institution.
- Fellowship duration: up to three months.
2.2. UK-based mathematicians
- An opportunity to undertake a research visit at a university or research institution in Vietnam.
- Fellowship duration: between one and three months.
