The Simons Foundation announces the 2013 Simons Investigator award recipients in mathematics, theoretical physics, and theoretical computer science. Among the recipients, there are two Vietnamese scientists who are from University of Chicago and also members of VIASM's Scientific Council: Prof. Ngo Bao Chau and Prof. Dam Thanh Son.

The SEAMS School “Algebraic curves” has taken place at the VIASM Lecture Hall from July 8, 2013 – July 19, 2013. This school provides basic materials on Commutative Algebra and on Algebraic Curves.

The Ceremony of Granting Mathematical Research Awards 2012 and Student Scholarships for the school-year 2012-2013 has taken placed at Ta Quang Buu Library Building, Hanoi University of Science and Technology on May 5, 2013. This is the first time the annual event is held in the scheme of the "National Program for the Development of Mathematics until 2020" (NPDM).
