USA National Academy of Sciences Members and Foreign Associates Elected
The National Academy of Sciences - USA announced on 29 April 2014 the election of 84 new members and 21 foreign associates from 15 countries in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Among 84 new members, there is Professor Dam Thanh Son - Professor from University of Chicago, USA and a member of VIASM Scientific Council.
12th Workshop on Optimization and Scientific Computing
The 12th workshop on Optimization and Scientific Computing takes place from 23 to 25 April 2014 in Ba Vi, Hanoi. The series "Workshop on Optimization and Scientific Computing" is organized annually, starting from 2003.
Mini-course: “Group cohomology and T-functor”
Mini-course “Group cohomology and T-functor” has opened on 22 April 2014 at C2 Lecture Hall, VIASM. The course is taught by Prof. Jean Lannes, Université Paris Diderot, France, who is also a member of the research group Algebraic topology working at VIASM during April and May.
Russian mathematician Yakov G. Sinai receives the Abel Prize 2014
The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has decided to award the Abel Prize for 2014 to Yakov G. Sinai (78) of Princeton University, USA, and the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences, "for his fundamental contributions to dynamical systems, ergodic theory, and mathematical physics".

The Mini-course: “Three Lectures on Quasi Monte Carlo Methods and Applications to PDE with Random Coefficients” by Prof. Ian Sloan (University of New South Wales, Australia) has taken place at C2 Lecture Hall, VIASM on 12 March, 2014. This is also one of the scientific activities of Prof. Dinh Dung’s research group at VIASM.
Activities of Special Semester on Commutative Algebra at VIASM
The Special Semester on Commutative Algebra has taken place at VIASM from 1 December 2013 until 28 February 2014. The program gathered 17 professors and research fellows from 6 cities across the country (Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City) to come to work at VIASM. In addition, there have been many other foreign professors (from USA, France, Switzerland, Japan, Italy, Spain) coming to give lectures as well as collaborating in research with Vietnamese research fellows.
