Public Lecture: Global-local Conjectures in Representation theory of Finite groups
Thời gian: 14:30 đến 16:30 Ngày 12/08/2024
Địa điểm: Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), Hanoi
Lecturer
- Prof. Pham Huu Tiep, Rutgers University, USA
Abstract: We will survey the history and progress on some of the main problems in the representation theory of finite groups. Then we will discuss the recent solution of one of them, the height zero conjecture of Richard Brauer, obtained in joint work with Gunter Malle, Gabriel Navarro, and Mandi Schaeffer Fry.
About the lecturer: Pham Huu Tiep graduated from the Chu Van An High School, Hanoi, in 1979. He was a member of the Vietnam team at the IMO 1979 in London, UK, winning a silver medal. In 1980, he entered Moscow State University (Moscow, Russia), where he subsequently obtained a Ph. D. degree in 1989 and a D. Sc. degree in 1991. He was on the faculty of University of Florida, University of Arizona, and is currently Joshua Barlaz Distinguished Professor at Rutgers University, USA.
Tiep works mainly in group theory and representation theory. He was an invited speaker at the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and also gave plenary addresses at meetings of the American Mathematical Society and the Canadian Mathematical Society. He is a Fellow of the AMS, Clay Senior Scholar, Simons Fellow, and has published 5 books and more than 200 research papers.
