Gregory Arone is a professor of mathematics at Stockholm university. He received his PhD from Brown University, and held positions at the University of Chicago, University of Aberdeen, and the University of Virginia before moving to his current position. He spent a year in Germany as an Alexander von Humboldt fellow and a semester in Finland as a Fulbright fellow. He works in topology, and is interested in the interplay between the algebraic, geometric and categorical aspects of the subject. He has done much research on polynomial functors and their applications. His work appeared in leading mathematical journals, including Acta Mathematica, Inventiones, and Publications of the IHES. He gave numerous series of lectures at workshops and summer schools for PhD students.

Amnon Neeman's mathematical life started in algebraic geometry - he received his PhD in mathematics from Harvard University in 1983, with a thesis written under the direction of David Mumford. In the years since then his work has diversified; he wrote papers on topics from algebraic geometry, algebraic K-theory and homotopy theory. The unifying theme is that he has worked on developing, extending and applying the techniques of homological algebra, more specifically of derived categories, to each of the disciplines.

Among the most useful of the techniques he introduced are the study of triangulated categories via the compact objects they contain, well-generated triangulated categories, and (most recently) metric techniques and their applications to triangulated categories.
